The Chandigarh Industrial and Tourism Development Corporation Limited (CITCO) is all set to promote Chandigarh as a tourist hub by rolling out special, weekend packages for tourists by mid of this year.
Chandigarh is largely used as a transit destination or for holding official conferences.
CITCO MD Kavita Singh said special packages were being planned, which would include boarding and lodging of tourists, besides a trip around the city.
Special trekking and other adventure sports would also be included in the programme so that the visitors can enjoy their short trip in the city.
The visitors will also be taken around the city’s tourist places.
Special offers are also being planned to attract customers to CITCO’s hotels.
CITCO is facing stiff competition from five star hotels in the city and to attract customers, renovations are being carried out in CITCO’s hotels.
Chandigarh has many tourists places such as Rose Garden, Sukhna Lake, Rock Garden, among others.
The city also has a Doll Museum and Art Gallery to attract the visitors.
The administration has not been able to promote tourism at large with whatever steps initiated by them.
People coming from different parts of the country and abroad generally stop by only for a few hours before heading to hill stations like Shimla. Though the administration keeps organising various events such as Rose Festival and Chrysanthemum Show, it still needs to do more.
