Kings XI Punjab batsman Mandeep Singh has been named the winner of the 2012 Citibank Rising Star Award.
The award recognises the best under-23 player of the DLF IPL season. The trophy was adjudicated by an eminent jury including former Indian cricketers Ravi Shastri and Sunil Gavaskar.
Twenty-year-old right-hander Mandeep Singh impressed both fans and critics with his masterful batting displays.
With 432 runs this season, he was the highest run-getter for Kings XI Punjab.
Commenting on the occasion, KXIP COO Col. Arvinder Singh said, "It's a matter of pride for us that Mandeep has been adjudged as Citibank Rising Star. We always had full faith in his capabilities and it is heartening to see him mature and take on added responsibility in the team."
Sanjeev Kapur, chief marketing officer, Citi India, presented Mandeep a trophy and a cheque of Rs 10 lakhs at the finals on Tuesday.
Receiving the award, Mandeep said, "As a young player at IPL, you wish to win the Citibank rising star award. I worked hard for it and it's an honour to have received this recognition."
