In protest against assault on doctors in Uttar Pradesh, Medicos Legal Action Group (MLAG), a group of city-based medical professionals, on Tuesday, appealed all doctors to wear black bands as a mark of protest on Wednesday.

Condemning the barbaric assault on medical students inside their hostels, allegedly by UP police in Kanpur on behest of a Samajwadi Party MLA, MLAG stated that UP has crossed all limits of lawlessness.

Dr Neeraj Nagpal, convenor of MLAG, said a brawl in the market between some students and MLA Irfan Solanki and his supporters had resulted in an organised attack by goons of Samajwadi Party abetted by police cane charge within campus and inside hostels of GSV Medical College, Kanpur.

Dr Nagpal said Indian Medical Association (IMA) headquarters would hold nationwide strike by doctors on March 6 if their demand was not met by then. Dr Sandeep Dhavan, founder trustee of MLAG said any action decided by IMA headquarters will be supported by all doctors.
