City mayor flags off greenathon

City mayor Harphool Chander Kalyan flagged off a greenathon at Sukhna Lake here on Sunday.Several residents participated in the run organised by Chandigarh Group of Colleges (CGC), Landran.

Bhavnesh, a student, clinched first position by completing the run in 6.47 minutes, while Vedant, another student, finished it in 7.12 minutes and claimed second position.

A plantation drive was also conducted on the occasion where large number of saplings were planted and distributed among citizens.

Speaking on the occasion, Kalyan said youth was the best medium through which a social message like 'Clean India Green India' could be conveyed to the society. The mayor also made the students undertook oath to help the administration to undertake the task of 'Clean India' in its true spirits.

A signature campaign had been initiated in which more than 15,000 students of CGC had taken oath to contribute in the 'Clean India Green India' campaign.
