Following HT’s cleanliness campaign, the municipal corporation (MC) is set to place dustbins all over the town.
The MC has floated tenders inviting companies for setting up bins. Officials claimed no patch in the city will be left without a dustbin and that work will begin by the end of the month.
MC commissioner Uma Shankar Gupta told HT, “It is a good awareness campaign by HT. We are ready to make every effort to keep the city clean. We have accepted your newspaper’s suggestions and decided to keep dustbins all over the city.”
The MC will begin with its own building in Sector 68, following which the entire city will be covered, according to officials. HT had reported about unclean surroundings in the MC building and how the lack of dustbins made people litter.
Gupta informed that industry associations had also joined the effort and that they would focus on keeping bins in certain areas. Earlier, the SAS Nagar MC had come up with the Sanitation and Public Health Bylaws 2014, following HT’s campaign.
Those who defy them will be fined heavily and action will also be initiated against them under section 65 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC).
These bylaws will become applicable once published in the official gazette.
