A Class 10 student was feared drowned after he was washed away in a seasonal rivulet at Sambhalkha village near here on Saturday morning.

Vikas Kumar, 15, had gone to take a bath in the rivulet along with three friends when he was washed away following a sudden increase in the level and undercurrent of the rivulet.

Rescuers are yet to locate his body. An official said the boy was feared drowned and it was suspected that the body had travelled quite a distance.

Victim's grandfather, Sunder Lal, said that friends of Vikas had panicked on seeing him get washed away and ran from the spot.

Later, on being informed by the three boys, villagers rushed to the spot and informed the police, which with the help of administration, have started the rescue operation.

Vikas's father, a daily-wager, is at present admitted in Ambala cantonment hospital for surgery. Barara sub-divisional magistrate (SDM) Jaidip Kumar confirmed the incident. "We are still looking for him," he said.
