A 16-year old boy committed suicide on Wednesday by hanging himself from a ceiling fan at his residence in Sector-52.

The deceased has been identified as Dinesh Kumar, a student of Class 9 at Sri Guru Gobind Singh High School, Sector-35.

The police said he was upset over studies. He was a weak student and his parents had reprimanded him for not going to school since the beginning of the year.

Station house officer (SHO) of Sector-36 police station Ram Dayal said, "The police have not recovered any suicide note but Dinesh's father Surinder Chauhan told police he did not go to school and was asked the reason behind not attending his classes."

According to Dayal, the incident came to light at about 3 pm when Dinesh did not open the door despite his brother repeatedly knocking. "When Dinesh did not respond, his brother called other family members and after breaking the door, they found him hanging from the ceiling fan," added Dayal.

The SHO said the victim's body had been kept in the mortuary of Govt. Multi Specialty Hospital, Sector-16, and inquest proceedings had been initiated.
