A Class XI girl of the Army Public School (APS) of Chandimandir allegedly attempted suicide by jumping over a bridge into Ghaggar river, near Amravati enclave in Kalka-Pinjore Urban Complex, on Thursday.

The reason behind the suicide attempt of Anjali couldn't be ascertained as the girl was not medically fit to give statement, said the police. According to the police, eyewitnesses informed that a girl, dressed in school uniform, jumped off from the bridge connecting Panchkula-Shimla highway with Amravati Enclave.

In charge of the Amravati police post ASI Jagdish Kumar took the girl to general hospital, sector 6, Panchkula, from where she was referred to Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER), Chandigarh. She received injuries in legs, but her mother took her to Command Hospital as victim's father is in the army and presently posted in Srinagar.

"We are yet to find out about the reason behind the suicide attempt. Her mother told us that everything was fine with her and she also couldn't give any reason for the suicide attempt. We even questioned the school principal. She also informed that the girl was doing well in studies," said assistant sub-inspector (ASI) Jagdish Kumar.

The girl, who is staying inside Chandimandir cantonment, left the house on Thursday morning for the school, but did not report there. Instead she left the cantonment. She jumped off the bridge around 9 am and hit the shallow water.

"We even checked her school bag and found some answer sheets in which she had got 9 out of 10 marks or 10 out of 10 marks. So, she was doing well in exams. Only she could tell us the reason. We are waiting for a green signal from the doctors," said the ASI.
