In a bid to ensure infrastructure and better marketing facilities to both farmers and traders, Punjab chief minister Parkash Singh Badal has approved transferring 28 acres of land to the nagar council, Samana, in Patiala district, for setting up a new mandi township.

Announcing this here, a spokesperson of the chief minister's office said Badal also cleared the file for issuance of notification in this regard under Section 3 of the Punjab New Mandi Townships (Development and Regulation) Act.

The Punjab cabinet has already given its nod to the state agriculture department to transfer 33 mandis, including Samana mandi, established by the erstwhile Pepsu government to the local government in November 2012.
