Chief minister Virbhadra Singh on Wednesday released a public distribution system (PDS) manual brought out by the food and civil supplies department.
The manual contains information regarding the fair price shops in the state along with the coding and fair price shop identity numbers (FPS-ID).
Releasing the manual at his chamber in the state assembly, the chief minister said it would be informative and grievances of the people regarding the PDS would be addressed in the shortest possible time. He added that the manual also contained the contacts of all the stakeholders of the PDS.
Meanwhile, food and civil supplies minister GS Bali said the manual was an important step towards achieving greater goals of transparency, which would reduce the bad practices bedeviling the PDS. “The department (food and civil supplies) is working diligently to build a good transparency portal where all the PDS information will easily be available,” added Bali.
He said a call centre (toll free) had been setup to address grievances of the people. “This entire exercise has been done to keep a check on the functioning of the fair price shops. People can even find out about the ration stock in the depots,” added Bali.
