The Aam Aadmi Party, on Monday, said the SAD-BJP coalition in Punjab was saving revenue minister Bikram Singh Majithia to save itself.
AAP convener for Punjab, Sucha Singh Chottepur, said, “The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is under the union finance ministry and if the BJP’s intent is to probe the drug cartel operating from north Indian states to other countries, it needs to do it in all seriousness. For now, it seems the BJP will use the probe only to arm twist its ally, sooner or later.”
He added, “Majithia’s name has cropped up in connection with sand, liquor and land mafia. The coalition has been trying to shield him for far too long.”
Demanding the minister's resignation, Chottepur said he should be interrogated as a common man, without any trappings of power.
“The Parkash Singh Badal government has lost the moral authority to be in power. There seems to be open patronisation of mafias. The investigations have also blown the lid off funding of elections through drug money while youth in the state are falling prey to narcotics,” Chottepur said.
