Cold conditions persist in Punjab, Haryana

The ongoing cold conditions persisted in most parts of Punjab, Haryana and Chandigarh on Wednesday with the mercury settling at below normal limits at several places in the region.

The minimum temperature hovered between four degrees Celsius below normal to two notches above normal at most places in Punjab and Haryana, the MeT office said here.

In the plains of Punjab and Haryana, Narnaul was the coldest place with a low of 5.5 degrees Celsius, four notches below normal.

While Hisar settled at a low of 6.5 degrees Celsius, three notches below normal, the minimum temperature at Amritsar was 7.8 degrees Celsius, one notch above normal.

Among other places, Ludhiana had a low of 8.1 degrees, two notches below normal followed by 10.6 degrees at Patiala, one notch above normal, 10.9 degrees at Ambala, two notches above normal and 11.1 degrees, also two notches above normal.

Karnal in Haryana braved a low of eight degrees which was one notch below normal.

Besides, some parts of the region, including Karnal and Ambala, were engulfed under fog in the morning.

The MeT forecast dry weather with rise in day temperatures in the region during the next 24 hours.
