A BA final-year student at the Government College for Girls, Sector 42, was found dead under mysterious circumstances at a guest house in Sector 43, on Wednesday afternoon. The police suspect the girl may have died due to overdose of drugs.

A taxi driver Mohammad Arshad, 29, has been booked for culpable homicide not amounting to murder after Babit a Kashyap, 22, was found dead. The two had reportedly checked into the guest house on Wednesday and had known each other for two years.

Arshad, is a taxi driver in Palsora and was earlier working with the girl’s father, also in the same business.

DSP South Surjit Malik said the girl had left for college in the mor ning. Arshad picked her up from college and went to the Sector-43 guest house, where they reportedly entered into an intimate relationship, after which the victim started feeling unwell.

“Babita said she was feeling nauseated and was struggling to speak. There was some fluid discharge from her mouth,” Arshad told the police.

The unconscious woman was later taken to the Sector 16 General Hospital by Arshad in a cab. She was declared brought dead and the police was called in.

Babita’s parents reached the hospital and lodged a complaint, after which Arshad was arrested. They alleged that Arshad had poisoned her. The police also visited the room in the guest house and recovered a bottle from the spot.

“The cause of the death would be known after the postmortem tomor row. The preliminary inquiry indicates that the girl died after consuming something poisonous,” the DSP said.
