Collision kills driver near Panchkula

A truck driver was killed in a head-on collision between two trucks near Barwala power house on national highway 73 on Wednesday night.

Rakesh Kumar, a resident of Kangra (Himachal Pradesh), was on his way to Delhi in a truck loaded with liquor. Near Barwala power house, his truck collided with another truck driven by Chotu, a resident of Bihar, coming from the opposite direction.

The impact was so huge that the driver side of the truck was completely damaged. Kumar was crushed to death on spot. Truck cleaner Swaroop Singh, a resident of Kangra, was also injured.

Chotu’s truck carrying grocery items also lost balance and its front part got damaged. He lost conscious but survived. He had suffered injuries in the legs.

“We have registered a case under sections 304A (causing death by negligence) and 279 (rash driving) on the complaint of Kumar’s family. Accused Chotu is yet to be arrested as he is recuperating at hospital,” said Chandimandir station house officer Arvind Kumar.
