The two-day second annual Alankar Theatre festival concluded with the staging of a musical comedy play ‘Ek Ladki Paanch Diwaane’ at the Randhwa Auditorium, Punjab Kala Bhawan, on Thursday.
The play was based on a story by Sangeet Natak Akademi awardee author Hari Shanker Parsai, while versatile Manju Yadav sculpted the script and lyrics, which depicted the tale of the growing up years of five boys of a locality from diverse family backgrounds, who happen to be in love with the same girl.
The play without a conventional story line develops in situational sequences laced with musical parodies and crisp dialogues, all exuding thrilling comedy under the direction of Chakresh Kumar and music by Sachin Bhatt.
As the play progressed, what followed was a comedy of errors for each of the love birds, including Ajay Dandiyan, Jaswinder Singh, Nitin Sharma, Prashant Mehra and Chakresh Kumar. The play offered a close study of human psyche and character where friends turned in foes and vice-versa.
Playwright Rajesh Kashyap, though too f ast at times, attempted to linkup the sequences. Jyoti, Promila Thapa and Deepanshu Sharma were the other actors in the play.
