UT administrator Shivraj Patil has directed officials of the Chandigarh administration to complete the draft Master Plan 2031 in all respects within eight days.
After the completion, the plan will be sent to the ministry of home affairs (MHA) for approval.
UT authorities started working on the master plan on the directions of the high court and an expert committee was constituted under the chairmanship of chief architect Sumit Kaur to prepare a vision for 2031.
The preparation work started in 2008, but its progress had been marred by delays and the administration had to seek several extensions for its completion.
During the last hearing on May 19, the court pulled up the administration and directed it to complete the master plan at the earliest. The case will come up for hearing on August 4.
In the second meeting of the council held here on Monday to discuss the report of the board of inquiry about the master plan, local member of Parliament (MP) Kirron Kher also submitted her suggestions.
She touched upon various issues pertaining to the future developments vis-a-vis the preservation of the character of the city. Kher demanded implementation of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises Development (MSMED) Act, 2006. Implementation of the act has been a long-pending demand of city-based industrialists.
The local MP also took up the issue of regularisation of construction outside Lal Dora in villages.
She further raised the issue of adressing electricity shortage by setting up power generation plant in Chandigarh.
During the discussions on the master plan, the administrator expressed that the character of the city needed to be maintained while charting future plans.
Former MP Satya Pal Jain and local Bharatiya Janata Par ty (BJP) head Sanjay Tandon also submitted their suggestions.
Chandigarh Beopar Mandal (CBM) president Charanjiv Singh thanked the administration for including traders’ issues such as warehousing complex, new grain market in Sector 39 and multi-storey parkings’ in markets.
He also requested the administration to grant permission for display and sale of goods on upper floors of commercial buildings without any restriction. The CBM also urged the authorities to scrap the penalty of ? 500 for misuse.
The body further requested earmarking space for at least 15 private hospitals to enhance medical care in the city.
NO TO CONVERSION OF LEASE TO FREEHOLD
UT administrator turned down the request of allowing conversion of industrial plots allotted on leasehold to freehold ownership.
The administration is of the view that since properties have been leased for 99 years, there is no reason for converting a property other than residential, which had been allotted on leasehold basis into freehold ownership.
