Computer operator jumps to death off PGI’s 5th floor

A 27-year-old woman data entry operator at the Post Graduate Institute of Medical Education and Research (PGIMER) committed suicide by jumping off the fifth floor of a building on the institute premises on Friday at around 10:30 am.

The deceased, identified as, Meena Devi went to fifth floor of the Research Block-A and jumped off. She was rushed to the emergency ward, where she was declared brought dead.

Police sources said she was depressed over strained relations with her husband Naresh Kumar, who works with a private firm. Before taking the extreme step, she is also learnt to have had a verbal spat with a colleague.

She was working with the department of histopathology but was an employee of a private firm engaged by the institute. The police have not recovered any suicide note.Her father, Desraj also works at the PGIMER.

The family members are learnt to have told police that she was suffering from depression due to problems in her married life.

“They (Meena’s in-laws) used to find fault in everything she did and her husband would thrash her,” her brother, Sanjay Kumar has stated in the complaint to police. She was married to Naresh Kumar and lived in Naya Gaon.

Police have booked her husband Naresh and his parents under Section 306 (abetment to suicide) and further investigations are on.
