Punjab health and family welfare minister Madan Mohan Mittal has directed the officers from the head office to carry out surprise visits in hospitals and give him a proper feedback so that he may initiate appropriate steps to provide need-based and better services to the people.
He gave these directions during a meeting of senior officers of the health department held on Thursday to review ongoing programmes and schemes of the health department.
The minister reviewed the preventive arrangements and preparedness of the health department in tackling H1N1 (swine flu) and other season based vector-borne diseases like malaria and dengue.
Mittal directed officers to remain prepared to tackle the menace of swine flu. The officers apprised the minister that all necessary steps had been taken and the facility of free sampling and transportation of samples had been made available in government hospitals of the state.
Necessary guidelines had been issued to districts to provide prompt and free treatment in case confirmed cases were reported. Rapid Response teams had been formed and control rooms established in all districts and all requisite logistics and medicines were available with the department.
