Amritsar (rural) District Congress Committee (DCC) chief Gurjeet Singh Aujla on Tuesday condemned the beating up of a police constable by his own colleagues led by a station house officer (SHO) at the behest of an Akali councillor.
Aujla on Tuesday met the victim constable, Dilbagh Singh, at his residence and inquired about his health.
He said such incidents lower the morale of police force and its seriousness could be gauged by the fact that the DGPC himself had to come down to Amritsar to get SHO Upkar Singh (now dismissed) arrested.
He demanded that the dismissed head constables Kulwant Singh, Balwinder Singh and Satpal Singh, who were allegedly involved in the incident, should be arrested immediately.
Aujla said Akali-BJP activists/leaders had become experts in finding new ways of violating the law.
He condemned the SAD-BJP leaders for protesting against the arrest of Akali councillor Dilbagh Singh, at whose behest the constable was thrashed.
