Cong constitutes panels for MC polls

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) today finalised the campaign and selection committees for the forthcoming municipal corporation elections in the state.

Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC), on Thursday, finalised the campaign and selection committees for the forthcoming municipal corporation elections in the state.


PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh will be the chairman of the state committee with Congress Legislature Party leader Sunil Jakhar and senior leader Rajinder Kaur Bhattal as members, a party spokesman said here.

The other members of the state-level committee are Lal Singh, Rana Gurmeet Sodhi, Arvind Khanna, Kewal Dhillon, Tarlochan Singh, Aruna Choudhary, Sukhbinder Singh Sarkaria, Amarjit S Samra, Chiranji Lal Garg, Rajnish Sahota, Jagdish Sahni and Malti Thapar.

Punjab Youth Congress president Vikram Choudhary and National Students' Union of India state chief Gobind Khatra have been included in the state committee as special invitees.

All the aspiring candidates have been asked to submit their applications to the respective district presidents or the committee itself on May 8 at Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar and on May 9 at Patiala.

While the campaign committees of the Jalandhar, Ludhiana and Amritsar will meet on May 8, the Patiala committee will meet on May 9.

Besides the members listed in the committees, the MPs from Ludhiana, Jalandhar and Patiala will be the ex-officio members of the selection/campaign committees.

For the Amritsar committee, Rana KP has been appointed as the observer with Prof Darbari Lal as its chairman. For the Jalandhar committee, Ashwani Sekhri is the observer and Rana Gurjit Singh the chairman. For Patiala, Chaudhary Jagjit Singh is the observer and Prem Krishan Puri the chairman. Lal Singh has been appointed as both observer and chairman of the Ludhiana committee.
