Hundreds of Congress workers led by SAS Nagar MLA Balbir Singh Sidhu on Thursday staged a protest outside the house of Punjab education minister Sikander Singh Maluka at Kansal village near here, demanding his resignation for his alleged involvement in the book scam.

While addressing the protesters, Sidhu said Maluka had brought a bad name to politics. He said no right thinking person could think of embezzling funds meant for schoolchildren. He said the crime committed by Maluka was unpardonable. He asked Maluka to step down from his post or the Congress would force the chief minister to drop him.

He alleged that the chief minister was trying to protect Maluka.
