Worried that fielding a candidate from Bawal constituency (reserved) with a criminal background may backfire in the assembly elections, the Congress has replaced Amritkalan Tikania with veteran leader and former minister Jaswant Singh.

Earlier, state power minister and prominent Ahir leader Capt Ajay Yadav was lobbying for his loyalists Jaswant Singh and Hira Lal for the ticket, but the list released on Wednesday had the name of Amritkalan Tikania.

Talking to mediapersons at Rewari, state Congress president Ashok Tanwar had said they were reviewing the candidature after receiving complaints that there were a number of police complaints against Tikania in money-related issues.

Amritkalan Tikania is a sitting councillor from Rewari town and used to work as a post office agent. Sources said she had a questionable past as she collected money from people in the name of insurance, but did not deposit instalments in their accounts.
