Former MLA Ramesh Singla of the Congress from Nabha joined the ruling Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in the presence of deputy chief minister and party president Sukhbir Badal here on Tuesday.

Inducting Singla into the party fold at his residence, Sukhbir said the very fact that a popular leader like Singla was joining the SAD was a proof that the Congress was on its deathbed in the state. He said more Congress leaders would join the party in the coming days.

“Congress leaders are leaving their party because they no longer have faith in its leaders and also want to do something for the people whom they represent,” he said.

“All Congressmen now realise that this is possible by following the footsteps of Chief Minister Parkash Singh Badal and participating in the pro-development movement launched by the SAD-BJP combine,” Sukhbir added.

Congress leaders Avtar Singh Brar, Jeet Mohinder Singh Sidhu and MLA and SGPC member Kuldeep Kaur Tohra were present on the occasion.
