Congress gets shot in arm as Muslim voters pledge support

Congress campaign on Tuesday got a major boost as prominent Muslim leader and member of Wakf Board, Mohammad Sadiq announced the support of thousands of Muslim voters from city.The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also got a major setback when some important leaders joined the Congress on Tuesday.

Congress campaign on Tuesday got a major boost as prominent Muslim leader and member of Wakf Board, Mohammad Sadiq announced the support of thousands of Muslim voters from city.

The Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) also got a major setback when some important leaders joined the Congress on Tuesday.

Prominent advocate Malkiat Singh Jandiala, who had contested the municipal corporation election as BSP candidate, joined the Congress in the presence of party’s minority cell chairman Khalil Ahmed. Chanchal Rani, general secretary of the local unit of BSP, also announced to join the Congress.

Later, Nanu Mian, BJP block president from Mauli Jagran, and Kaseeran, another important BJP leader from Mauli Jagran, accompanied by a large number of supporters joined the Congress in presence of Chandigarh Territorial Congress Committee (CTCC) president BB Bahl and Congress candidate Pawan Kumar Bansal at a function wherein a number of societies for Muslim welfare came together under the banner of minority cell of CTCC.

Earlier, addressing a Joint Forum of Industries Association and Chamber of Chandigarh Industries of Chandigarh, Bansal said he firmly believed that the system of leasehold plots was now outdated, adding that he had advocated conversion of leasehold properties to freehold.
