The construction work for the new anaj and sabzi mandis in Ambala Cantt would start early next year, claimed deputy commissioner (DC) Markand K Pandurang, here on Wednesday.

He said the government has sanctioned Rs 12.59 crore for the project for which Haryana Agriculture Marketing Board has already acquired 33 acres of land near Buhava village on the National Highway number 1. The boundary walls on the land have been constructed, he said, adding that the total project would cost around Rs 24 crore.

The sabzi mandi would have two covered sheds and three platforms, while the anaj mandi would have three sheds and nine platforms, the DC said.

Facilities of an ATM machine, petrol pump and 244 other spots would be earmarked for the retail selling of fruits and vegetables, he added.

Pandurang also claimed that the construction work would be completed in a year and the project would fulfil the long-standing demand of the residents and also ease the traffic in the Cantt area.
