The National Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (NCDRC) will be holding court in Chandigarh from November 17 to November 28 to bring consumer disputes redressal to the doorstep of the city residents.
Pankaj Chandgothia, president, the Chandigarh consumer courts bar association, said that this would be for the first time that the commission would hold its court in north India.
According to Chandgothia, "The sittings will take place on the top floor of the Chandigarh State Consumer Commission building in Sector 19, Chandigarh."
At present, about 177 cases are pending before the NCDRC, New Delhi, from the state commission of Chandigarh. Chnadgothia said that even fresh cases would be listed in the Chandigarh Circuit Bench office of the NCDRC.
He added, "The purpose of holding circuit bench sittings at various places was to give quick justice at the doorsteps of the consumers so that they need not travel to New Delhi for seeking redressal of their grievances."Earlier, the sittings have taken place in Bangalore, Hyderabad, Chennai, Pune, Kolkatta, Jaipur and Nagpur.
