The district consumer disputes redressal forum, Chandigarh, has directed a Sector 41-based contractor to pay Rs 1.67 lakh for deficient services to a Sector-36 resident for failing to complete the repair work of the latter’s house.
As per directions of the forum, the amount paid by Baljeet Singh, a resident of Sector 41, to complainant Sudhir Inder Cheema (71), includes Rs 1.35 lakh (Rs 1.10 lakh for getting the work completed from labourers and Rs 25,000 for sanitary fittings allegedly taken away), Rs 7,000 as cost of litigation and Rs 25,000 as compensation.
Cheema had engaged Baljeet for whitewash, electrical and sanitary repairs of the first floor of his house and paid Rs 50,000 through cheque.
Chemma claimed that Baljeet had assured that the work would be completed within one month in July 2013.
Cheema alleged that soon after starting work Baljeet started remaining absent and did not pick his phone and failed to complete the work besides taking away the sanitary fittings worth Rs 25,000.
Baljeet was proceeded exparte after he refused to accept the summons.
The district consumer disputes redressal forum, Chandigarh, presided over by Rajan Dewan, on August 22, had observed in its decision, “The act of Baljeet Singh in failing to complete the agreed works surely amounts to deficiency in service and unfair trade practices on his part.”
