Cop slips while boarding Haryana Roadways bus, dies

A 52-year-old sub-inspector posted with the Intelligence Bureau (IB) was killed after falling down while boarding a Haryana Roadways bus in Chandigarh.

The deceased has been identified as Shayam Lal, a resident of Sector 32. The incident took place near the Housing Board light point on Saturday.

According to police, Shayam Lal was boarding the bus, when it moved forward and he lost balance and fell on the road. The victim was rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital (GMSH) in Sector 16 where he was declared brought dead by the doctors. The victim had sustained injuries on his head. However, the body was handed over to his family after post-mortem examination. The bus (HR-68A-9818) was being driven by Rattan Kumar, a resident of Panchkula.

On a complaint lodged by victim's son Raman Kumar, a case under sections 279 (rash driving), 337 (causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others) and 304A (causing death by negligence) was registered against the bus driver at Manimajra police station. The accused was arrested, but later released on bail.

The deceased is survived by wife and three children.
