The traffic police have prepared a detailed report on the light points at Sector 45-46 and 49-50 on the Vikas Marg to prevent the recurrence of the gory accident between a Himachal Transport Volvo bus and a Swift car on August 23 in which five people were killed and 15 injured. There have been 19 accidents at the spot over the past five years.

The department has observed that surface of the road is not smooth at all places. Streetlights, including the mercury high mast light, were non-functional. The layout of the intersection will again be checked by the architect department.

At least, three to four pieces of the grill near the intersection should be removed to clear the visibility of the vehicles coming at right angles, it has been suggested.

It was also observed that the small barrier building is occupied by the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF). There are obstacles to the line of view like the setting up of a make-shift sentry post and notice board on a side near the sector 49-50 dividing board.

The planting of small shrubs was also considered to be an obstacle to the line of sight for the vehicles coming on the dividing road of Sectors 49-50 in judging the vehicles coming on the road from Sector 46-49 side of the Vikas Marg.

After discussions with the engineering department, measures like construction of an underpass for pedestrian crossing with illumination visible from a distance were suggested, so that vehicles may slow down when they come near the intersection.

All the road markings be fixed with illuminating cat eyes for visibility during night hours, it was suggested.

Pruning of trees and cutting of shrubs should be done on a regular basis by the department concerned near the intersections and roundabouts all over the city. Speed limit sign boards of 30 kilometer per hour be erected before 80 meters of all the intersections and roundabouts as per the speed limit.
