Cops nab thief, say seven cases solved

Officials of the police’s crime branch apprehended a Ramdarbar resident, identified as Vikas, who they said had earlier been involved in seven cases of theft in Chandigarh and Panchkula, on Monday. The police added gold and silver jewellery valued at about Rs 6.4 lakh as well as a motorcycle were recovered from his possession.

DSP (crime) Jagbir Singh said with the latest arrest seven cases of theft and one of vehicle theft, which had been re gistered at the Sectors 17, 19 and 31, Industrial Area and Manimajra police stations, had been solved. “Vikas was a gambler who resorted to theft to pay for his habit”, he added.

Vikas was brought to the city from the Ambala district jail on a production warrant on May 2. He is also said to be involved in four cases of theft filed with the Panchkula police. The accused was later remanded to police custody till June 3.
