In a move to safeguard the future of post offices and provide more facilities to customers, core banking service would be introduced in post offices in Himachal Pradesh soon.

For successful implementation of the new system, nearly 22 post offices have been selected wherein ATM machines would be installed, said Himachal Pradesh chief postmaster general AN Nand.

Nand said that customers would be allowed to withdraw money anywhere using ATM cards and services of electronic transfer of money will be made available to them. “All post offices having this facility will be interlinked with each other under the plan,” he said.

He said to mark the World Post Day, the Himachal circle would organise various programmes over a week. He said the day is celebrated on October 9 on the anniversary of establishment of the Universal Postal Union in 1874 in Swiss capital Bern.

Meanwhile, he said that working conditions are very hard in the hill state. “Despite odd conditions, we are working to serve the people even in far-flung areas of the state. As the time is changing, postal India has also been adopting new technology to serve the people,” he said.

As the telegram service is closed now, the post office has launched e-post service. “With time, we are also changing so that people could get better services as we are the largest postal network,” he added.
Himachal Pradesh postal circle has a network of 18 head officers, 447 departmental sub-post officers and 2,315 extra-departmental branch post officers, while there are 1,54,846 post officers and 4,66,903 employees across the country.
