Union home minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Sunday said the country had already suffered a lot, and those supporting terrorism need to introspect.
Shinde, who was in Attari to review the working of the Integrated Check Post (ICP), was answering a question regarding the allegations by the Punjab Congress leadership that the construction of the memorial to Bluestar would revive terrorism in Punjab.
Without naming anyone, Shinde said, "It is up to them whether they want to revive terrorism. The country has already suffered so much. I am not saying they are reviving terrorism, but if so, they need to introspect."
Terming the recent attack on Lt Gen KS Brar in London as unfortunate, he said, "I don't want to say which agency was protecting him. But I condemn this rise in terrorism."
On being asked whether India would push for extradition of those who attacked Lt Gen Brar, Shinde said, "We can't say much as the investigation is still on. We are taking care and India is bound to react."
While answering a question that there were reports of infiltration from the Chinese border, Shinde, who reached Amritsar straight from Leh, said, "Such reports come from both sides. Our men are alert and there is no infiltration at the moment."
Shinde, who was honoured by revenue minister Bikram Majithia at the ICP, said, "India has decided to build 13 such ICPs and Amritsar is fortunate to have the first one in the country. Traders and the Punjab revenue minister have apprised me of several problems and we will look into them. We are concerned about the problems of the traders and farmers whose lands were acquired."
Replying to a query regarding the embezzlement of border area funds after which Punjab animal husbandry minister Gulzar Singh Ranike had resigned, Shinde said, "The Punjab government is already investigating the matter. I have also received a few complaints and we will look into it."
SAD MLA Ranike, who resigned from the cabinet after the embezzlement scam, was conspicuous by his absence. The ICP falls in Attari constituency represented by Ranike.
