An unmarried couple allegedly committed suicide by jumping before a running train near Panipat on Sunday evening.

Panipat government railway police (GRP) SHO Lalit Kumar told Hindustan Times that while the man was identified as Sukhdev Singh of Sarsa village in Kurukshetra district, the girl's identity was yet to be ascertained. He said that preliminary investigations indicated that the girl was from Pasina village in Panipat district.

The SHO said that the couple jumped in front of Bathinda Express at around 5.15pm. The couple died on the spot.

While GRP authorities ruled out foul play in the incident, it could not be confirmed if any suicide note was found on the deceased persons.
