An elderly couple from Patiala was crushed to death after a truck lost control and rammed into their motorcycle at the Landran village T-point on Sunday.
The victims, identified as ex-serviceman Jarnail Singh, 60, and his wife, Joginder Kaur, 58, residents of Dharamgarh village in Patiala, were on their way to pay obeisance at Gurdwara Singh Shaheedan in Sohana.
Sohana station house officer (SHO) Satwant Singh told HT that the accident took place around 10:15 am on Sunday, when the couple were waiting for their turn at the traffic lights of the T-point.
“As the truck rammed into their motorcycle, Jarnail was crushed under the front wheels of the truck, while his wife came under the vehicle’s rear wheels. Both were killed on the spot. We have arrested the truck driver, Gurjeet Singh, and booked him under sections 279 (rash driving or riding on a public way) and 304-A (causing death by negligence),” he added.
The bodies were handed over to the family after autopsy at SAS Nagar civil hospital.
