The Chandigarh district court on Friday postponed the pronouncement of the quantum of sentence in Aroma murder case for Monday.

Also, deceased Har minder Singh’s mother, Harmesh Kaur, moved the court on Friday, seeking compensation of Rs 5 lakh each from all the eight convicts. Taking up her petition, the court issued notices to all the convicts for Monday.

The convicts include Sukhjeet Singh Sooch, 29, of Phase-11, SAS Nagar; Harsimranjeet Singh, 28, a resident of Sector 44; Chandan Singh, 24, Sandeep Kumar, 27, and Gautam Singh, 23, of Burail; Anand Singh, 27, and Mahavir Singh, 25, all from Sector 41; and Prashant Kumar Dabral, 31, a resident of Sector 49.

Except Sukhjeet Singh Sooch, who was on bail, all other seven convicts were confined in Burail jail. Additional district and sessions judge KK Kareer had on Thursday held all eight accused guilty of culpable homicide punishable by up to life term. It was on January 12, 2012, midnight when an MBA student Harminder Singh, 23, was killed in a brawl outside Aroma Hotel at Sector 22.

Harmesh Kaur submitted that now it becomes the responsibility of the convicts to compensate her for the loss she had suffered financially because of the death of her son.

She had submitted that even during the pendency of the case trial, her husband Channan Singh also died due to depression and now she is without any financial support from anyone, which earlier was being provided by her deceased husband and son.

Though she has another son, he is practically living his independent life, she has submitted.
