The court of sessions judge Ravi Kumar Sondhi on Wednesday rejected the interim bail application of Doon MLA Ram Kumar Chaudhary, who is a prime accused in Jyoti murder case.
Belonging to Dalit community of Bhunga village in Punjab’s Hoshiarpur district, Jyoti, 24, was found dead – her head smashed -- by the side of the road in Sector 21 of Panchkula on November 22, 2012.
Chaudhary wanted to attend Himachal Pradesh (HP) Assembly session at Dharamshala, which started on December 16. It is a six-day session which will culminate on December 21. He was seeking interim bail till December 21.
The police opposed the application before the court on Wednesday. After listening to both the sides Chaudhary’s application was rejected.
Chaudhary submitted before the court that he was an elected representative of people and have to fulfill certain responsibilities in this regard.
Earlier, on August 24, the same sessions court here had rejected his application to attend the assembly session for a day. Before that on March 12, Chaudhary had moved an application for attending the budget session of HP Assembly but then Chief Judicial Magistrate Bhawna Jain denied the permission on March 15 saying attending the assembly session could not be taken as a fundamental right and Chaudhary had been facing trial for a heinous crime.
The next date in the Jyoti murder case is December 23 and December 24.
