The Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) on Sunday condemned the government report giving clean chit to the State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC) over the death of 24 students in the Beas tragedy.
CPM state secretariat member Tikender Singh Panwar said the party was apprehensive about the outcome of the probe. "In fact, we were apprehensive about such an outcome. Even our party had asked for a probe to be done by the Northern Grid or some other competent agency instead the state-owned agency," said he, in a statement issued here.
He also alleged that government had tried to save the state-owned department. "Even the government knows that not just gross irregularity was committed by the SLDC but the officials of the aforesaid department are hand in glove with the private power producers," said he.
Demanding the intervention of the high court again, the CPM said it was necessary to ensure that the guilty were not allowed to escape their responsibility just because they have been exonerated by a team comprising none else but their own counterparts who were bound to help their colleagues.
Panwar further claimed that CPM was first one to bring the role of SLDC to the fore which was followed by several other sections of the press. "The officials of SLDC not just once but several times in the past have done a similar exercise to help their cronies in the form of private power producers," added he.
He also accused the government of budging before this lobby, especially the large power producers. The SLDC which was supposed to work as a neutral body has aligned with the private producers and harmed the interests of the public sector units, added he.
