A local court has acquitted a SAS Nagar resident booked for creating fake profile and posting obscene pictures of a woman on a social networking site in 2008 after the complainant failed to appear in the court.

The UT police had arrested Jatinder Singh Marok, a resident of SAS Nagar, after registering a case in February 2008 on the complaint of an IT professional employed in SAS Nagar.

The victim in her complaint had alleged that on January 2, 2008, she received a call on her phone. The caller informed her that she had a profile on a social networking site, Orkut, and got her number from there, she informed.

She alleged that the caller started making obscene comments on the phone. She alleged that several calls were received by her from various persons who used to harass her.

She approached the cyber cell and lodged a complaint in this connection. Investigations revealed that a fake profile in the victim's name was created on the social networking site giving all her personal details with obscene pictures.
