Over the years, a drastic change has entered our lifestyle and odd working hours have further affected it. Earlier, a nine-to-five job meant that one could easily devote his mornings or evenings to health. But with the long hours and night shifts creeping in, very few have the privilege to follow a morning or evening fitness schedule.
But when the question is not only about living a life, but living a healthy life, one has to take out time from one’s busy schedule for workout. Also, if one is determined and passionate to have a healthy body, the workout is not limited to mornings or evenings.
One can enjoy it 24X7, and that too without pumping iron in the gym or travelling distances to attend aerobic classes. Cycling, walking, skipping or any other activity: wherever, whenever it suits you, sweat it out.
For me fitness means living a healthy life, no restrictions on food and if the job demands to be on the toes round the clock, then showing no sign of fatigue. For this, I have to sweat it out. During my school and college days, I was involved in all possible outdoor sports, and even represented Chandigarh in basketball nationals five times.
During the training at the Direct Taxes Academy at Nagpur, I had a disciplined fitness regimen and also bagged the ‘best sportsperson’ award there.
In 2011, when I got my first field posting, I thought maintaining my conventional fitness routine would be easy. But that was not the case. The reason was the varying working hours.
Being in the income tax department, we sometimes have to work continuously for 48 hours during surveys and to lead by example one has to be on the toes the entire time. And for that one has to be fit. So, I decided to make the best of the time available and chalked out a customised fitness plan.I prefer cycling, as there is no constraint of time or company. I am able to do it late in the evening also. To break the monotony, I also try my hand at various other exercises.

What Fitness means: Living a healthy life, no restrictions on food, and if the job demands to be on the toes round the clock, then showing no sign of fatigue .
Fitness regimen: No fixed schedule. But whenever gets time, even late evenings, prefers cycling for half an hour and tries to follow it at least for four days a week. If not cycling, then it’s either walking or jogging. There are times when I am unable to workout the entire week, then on my off day I sweat it out extensively, or even go on a long trek.
Diet part: Usually do not follow any dietary restriction. But milk and fruits are regular part of my diet. The days when not regular with the fitness regimen, then I am a bit cautious about what I eat.
“After being into the job, I had thought that I would easily be able to have a fitness routine. But due to varying working hours I was unable to stick to proper regimen. And being in the income tax department, we sometimes have to work continuously for 48 hours during surveys, that demands fitness. So, I decided to make the best of the time available. At times I workout even in late evenings.” Deepika Mohan.
