A cyclist was killed after being hit by an unidentified vehicle in Chandigarh on Monday.
The incident took place on the dividing road of Sector 22/35 and the victim has been identified as Ramesh Kumar (30). Ramesh was a resident of Bhaskar Colony in Sector 25. The deceased used to work at a petrol pump in Sector 21.
Investigating officer sub-inspector Rakesh Kumar said the vehicle that hit the deceased fled from the spot immediately after the accident.
The police was informed and the victim was rushed to the Government Multi-Specility Hospital in Sector 16 where doctors declared him brought dead.
The deceased's body has been kept in the hospital mortuary and will be handed over to his family after postmortem.
The sub-inspector added that they had been scanning the footage of CCTV cameras installed on the road where the accident took place to ascertain the identity of the accused.
A case for rash driving, causing hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others, and causing death by negligence under sections 279, 337 and 304A of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) has been registered against the unidentified driver of the vehicle at Sector 36 police station.
