Daughter of IAS couple jumps off school roof

The 18 year old daughter of a Haryana cadre Indian Administrative Service (IAS) couple commited suicide by jumping from the roof top of Bhavan Vidyalaya School, Sector 27, Chandigarh, on Wednesday.

The deceased has been identified as Anandi Gulati, daughter of Shashi Gulati and Sunil Gulati. The incident took place around 2:00 pm. The police was informed and reached the spot around 2:10pm from where she was rushed to the Government Multi-Specialty Hospital in Sector 16.

The victim was declared brought dead by the doctors around 2:30pm. The body has been kept in the hospital mortuary and will be handed over to family members after conducting a postmortem on Thursday.

DSP (East) Jaswant Singh Khera said that Anandi along with her classmate Bhavneet Kaur had gone to collect their 10+2 mark sheets from the school. The victim handed over her bag to Bhavneet and told her that she wants to see her classroom for the last time and will be back in a minute. She went to the roof top from where she jumped hitting her head on ground.

The police found her spectacles on the roof top. She was commerce student and had attained 86.5 percent marks in 10+2.

Police found a suicide note in her bag. In her note she had bid goodbye to her mother, sister and friends saying that she is going to enter a new world. Jaswant Singh Khera said that she had written on both sides of the page. She did not give reasons behind the extreme step and had not mentioned anything about her father.

Shashi Gulati, 1986 batch IAS officer, is posted as special secretary forest while Sunil Kumar Gulati, 1984 batch officer, is the financial commissioner and principal secretary housing. They are legally separated and the victim was living with her mother at their Sector 7 residence, while Sunil is resident of Sector 49.

Shashi Gulati was in Mauritius for a vacation, while Sunil was in Delhi at the time of incident. They both have been informed by the police about the incident.
