Lal, who has been accused of raping Loveleen by staging a fake marriage and keeping her in illegal confinement, was brought to the Dera Bassi civil hospital for a medical check-up in the afternoon. He is in two-day police custody at present.
Talking to mediapersons, Lal said Lovleen was living in his flat as she was known to his family. He denied allegations of staging a marriage with Loveleen, keeping her in illegal confinement and developing a relationship with her on the pretext of getting her a police job.
He said he had offered help to Loveleen as her father was his junior. Lal also claimed that he was out of station on the night of May 16 and reached Zirakpur after he came to know of Loveleen's death on May 17. Asked how Lovleen fell from the flat, Lal said he did not know. “I have faith in law and will come out clean,” he said.
Meanwhile, SP (detective) Balwinder Singh Brar, who is heading the special investigation team probing the case, said the will decide on adding sections of destroying evidence, assault and rape against Lal only after the arrival of the forensic report of Loveleen's viscera and his interrogation.
Lovleen's father had in a letter to the Punjab Human Rights Organisation, a non-government organisation, alleged that Lal married his daughter and kept her in illegal confinement at his flat in Zirakpur on the pretext of a job in Punjab Police.
