A day after Opposition councillors attacked him for the early adjournment of Wednesday's MC House meeting, mayor Subhash Chawla on Thursday struck back, saying it was they who did not want development in the city and wasted time in non-issues.

The municipal corporation (MC) House will now meet on August 8. Talking to journalists at the MC office in Sector 17, Chawla defended his decision to adjourn the House early: “They were busy in discussing non-issues when I asked for approve the agenda items.”

“Before pointing fingers at others, Opposition councillors should look at themselves.”

“They believe in personal agenda rather than development of the city, he said.Lashing out at BJP's Arun Sood, the leader of Opposition in the MC House, the mayor accused Sood of using “un-parliamentary language” on five occasions in the house. “Sood apologised for the same,” he said.

Contacted, councillor Arun Sood rubbished the allegations as baseless. On the BJP councilors wasting time in the House, Sood said: “We would if the ruling party allows us to do that.”
