Complying with the directions issued by the district court, the Chandigarh Police on Tuesday registered a case against Poonam Malik, personal assistant of UT deputy commissioner Mohammed Shayin, and an of official of Red Cross Society, Ashish Ahuja, under the Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribes Act. The case has been registered at the Sector-11 police station.

Sector-11 station house officer inspector Malkit Singh said the case was registered after instructions of a local court and on the basis of a complaint filed by a former Red Cross Society employee, Sushil Kumar Taank.

Taank had alleged that Malik and Ahuja had harassed him in June last year by making remarks with reference to his caste. Taank claimed that whenever he entered the office, the two would pass remarks at him. The complainant also claimed that their behaviour caused mental harassment and disturbance to him.

The complainant, a resident of Khuda Ali Sher, said Poonam and Ahuja are relatives and harboured professional grudge against him. He approached a senior official and complained about the attitude of the two, but to no avail.

Taank has been working with the Red Cross Society for a long time. Ahuja is field supervisor with the Red Cross Society, with his office at Karuna Sadan building in Sector 11. The court of judicial magistrate Anil Kaushik had directed the police to submit the report in this connection by August 14. The directions were issued on July 9.
