Residents of Rupnagar town and adjoining villages have vehemently opposed the decision of the railways to permanently close railway crossing number 46-C situated near the local railway station.

A committee constituted to spearhead agitation against the closure of railway crossing has sent memorandums to Punjab education minister Daljit Singh Cheema, industries minister Madan Mohan Mittal, Anandpur Sahib MP Prem Singh Chandumajra and Rajya Sabha member Ambika Soni seeking their intervention in the matter.

They demanded that the railway crossing should not be closed as residents of localities and villages situated on or near Nangal road would face a lot of inconvenience.

They demanded that railways should review its decision or alternative arrangements like construction of flyover at railway line and underground road should be made for the facility of residents.

They warned that if the railway authorities went ahead with their decision, they would be forced to launch an agitation.
