Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabdi will now also halt at Sonepat and Karnal stations. This assurance was given by Union railway minister, Suresh Prabhu during a meeting with Haryana chief minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi on Friday.
An official release said that Prabhu directed railway officials to ensure that the recently launched Delhi-Chandigarh Shatabadi halts at Sonepat and Karnal. At present, the train only halts at Ambala.
Prabhu said the railway ministry was also working on the concept of trains running on overhead bridges on the pattern of metro rail and this possibility would also be explored in Haryana to minimise the requirement of land for railways.
The chief minister demanded that the process of setting up of rail coach factory at Sonepat and electrification of Jind-Panipat, Narwana-Kaithal-Kurukshetra and Rohtak-Gohana-Panipat railway line be expedited.
He also discussed the proposed rail projects like Yamunanagar-Chandigarh, Karnal-Yamunanagar, Delhi-Sohna-Ferozpur Jhirka-Alwar, Hisar-Sirsa via Agroha, Fatehabad-Mansa-Bathinda.
The state government is ready to share half the cost of a number of these projects, Khattar said. He also demanded a halt at Koka-Kulana between Jhajjar and Machhrauli, and a railway gate at Babra. Besides, he also requested that additional facilities be provided in Gurgaon and Panchkula railway stations.
