Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee (PPCC) president Partap Singh Bajwa on Friday lambasted deputy chief minister Sukhbir Singh Badal for making ‘exaggerated’ claims about attracting huge investment in the state at a time when multinational company Dell had decided to wind up its operations in Mohali.

He said the government had miserably failed to create investment confidence and the necessary infrastructure for industrial growth of this border state.

The PPCC said the deputy CM had organised a mega investment summit in December last year, projecting it as a new beginning for industrial development of the state.

Bajwa said the road to industrial progress in Punjab was full of hurdles in the absence of infrastructure such as good roads and adequate power supply.

He pointed out that Punjab had missed the IT (information technology) bus earlier and all belated attempts to attract investment had failed as some of the projects had even failed to take off.

“Industrial concessions (to neighbouring states) were given by the previous NDA government. Now, the NDA has returned to power.

Now is the time for the Shiromani Akali Dal (a constituent of the NDA) to get that decision reversed or get the same for Punjab,” he added.

Bajwa said Sukhbir should henceforth stop making bloated claims as he could not befool the people all the time.
