Nearly 800 voters of Dhadiala village in Urmur assembly segment of Hoshiarpur, boycotted poll in protest against police's inaction to arrest the killers of a village youth Ravinder Singh who was found hanging in a tubewell room of a fellow villager on March 9.

DIG Jalandhar range GS Dhillon, Hoshiarpur SSP Sushil Kumar and other senior civil and police officials and political leaders tried to placate them but the villagers did not relent. They alleged that the police did not make any effort to nab the culprits. Poll staff informed that only four out of 816 votes were polled. Sources said the village has had Akali leanings.
