As the nation celebrated the Vijay Diwas to mark the 43rd anniversary of its military victory over Pakistan, people from all walks of life here also remembered the martyrs, who laid down their lives in service to the nation.
A large number of civil dignitaries, ex-servicemen and service personnel participated in the Vijay Diwas celebrations at the Martyr Memorial in Dharamsala. Commandant 39th Mountain Division Major General Amar Pal Singh laid floral wreath at the memorial.
“Every year 16 December is celebrated as the Vijay Diwas to commemorate India's historic victory over Pakistan,” Singh said. He added that 195 brave soldiers achieved martyrdom in the 1971 war.
Singh exhorted the army personnel to rededicate themselves in the service of the nation and emulate the devotion and resoluteness of war veterans and martyrs, who had brought the Indian Army to the pinnacle of professional glory.
Major General Singh distributed the prizes to the winners of slogan writing and declamation contest that was organised on December 13 with students from 10 schools participating in the competition. Additional deputy commissioner, Kangra Sudesh Mokta, was also present on the occasion
