Senior BJP leader and former chief minister Prem Kumar Dhumal has said the Congress government is to be blamed for the floods and losses caused to the people during the recent heavy rains all over the state.
He alleged that the government did not take preventive steps; had the government taken steps in time, lives of 31 people would have been saved.
While talking to reporters here on Friday, he said it was wrong to say that the BJP was doing politics on flood-related issues. He said the BJP was pro-people and would continue to remain so.State BJP chief Satpal Satti was also present at the press conference.
Dhumal said it was shocking that not even a single Congress leader had talked about the loss to the crops and the people. He demanded that a special girdwari of crops should be conducted all over the state as widespread damage amounting to thousands of crores of rupees had been caused to the kharif crops and fruits.
The BJP leader said he had already talked to the Centre and demanded timely relief to the state.
Speaking on the occasion, Satti said the party was organising a function at Baroha in Hamirpur on September 25 in which the best booths of the state would be honoured. He said invitations had already been sent to BJP chief Amit Shah and union home minister Rajnath Singh.
Earlier, Dhumal and Satti took part in a meeting of the district unit of the party.
